A necessary basis for the improvement of our environment is the effective and efficient communication of ideas and concepts. The project "Visualization of land use patterns in Northrhine-Westfalia by means of Satellite- and aerial photography" - funded by the northrhine-westfalian Ministry of Environment - can serve as an example for this thesis.
In association with
chromgruen developed an internet platform where open source software such as UMN mapserver were utilized to present the development of land use patterns in Northrhine-Westfalia during the last 30 years.
chromgruen was responsible for the technical realisation of the website, as well as for most of the accompanying digital media like a multimimedia animation or a GIS application especially customized for schools.
Within the context of the project solely open source software has been utilized. Therefore all components could be used, modified, and distributed at no licence costs.
